How To Select The Right Real Estate Agent For You

If the time has come for you to start looking for a new home or perhaps you are relocating to a new city, you should begin the search by contacting a realtor. While you might be considering buying a home without a real estate agent, there are some very good reasons to hire this professional.

Perhaps you can find a great home you want to buy and aren't worried because the seller has a real estate agent already in place. Keep in mind that the seller's real estate agent is working on behalf of that seller only and not you. They can't tell you anything about why the seller is leaving the home or what concessions might be available or how low they are willing to go pricewise. When you have your own agent, this person is working solely to represent you and has your best interest in mind. You really have little to lose because your agent and the seller's agent split the commission which is paid by the seller once the escrow process has closed.

For those who do not have a trusted real estate agent, you will have to shop around for someone. You can ask family and friends for recommendations or simply talk to a few agents, ask some questions and figure out which person seems like the best fit for you.

There are a few questions that you probably should ask your agent. For instance, you will want to know how long he or she has been in the real estate business. You also will want to know a bit about your agent's experience level in the area in which you want to buy. You will want to know how long they have been selling homes in the area, as well as how long they have lived in town. If you are relocating to a new city, this knowledge will be especially important for you.

It is very important to feel comfortable with your agent. This needs to a person you can really talk to and express what you need in a home. If an agent sets up viewings at homes that are in neighborhoods you dislike or the houses are far too expensive or just don't suit your tastes, this is either the wrong agent for you or you need to more clearly communicate your house shopping goals. Be sure you provide a list of must-have items, a concrete budget and some information about what you really dislike, as well.
